NUSKIN
Well, all of you who know me, also know how obsessive I can get about something or someone when I like it – or him... (Remember when I was in love with Bill... You cannot forget how impatient I was to tell you about his latest moves and words... And I’m sure you were fed up with it). However, I will not annoy with this – even if this is a great stuff I have found here.
Girls are supposed to share about their beauty tips. This is a good one. And it is also a nice ay to make extra money. If I saw you lately, I did probably not tell you too much about it as I am more than annoyed with people who try to convince you to buy something and get you into their network to make more money. I wanna keep my friends and to be honest, I am not always very comfortable when talking about money. You know French people are more comfy with talking about sex rather than money... This is our taboo. So I’m just gonna write a few things to explain how this works and my experience of it. And of course, if you have any questions, you can contact me.
Story starts last summer as I was with my sister disucussing anti-ageing creams. She was telling me she did not really believe any cream could improve your complexion or actually prevent you from getting wrinkles. It was my first time this summer: I could see my first lines between my eyes and on my fronthead and I was starting to worry, scrutanize them every morning and wonder “what can I do to slow the process?” I remembered one of the nice stuff my sister used to tell me when I was younger: “You’ll have wrinkles before you stop having acnee”. And she knew about this since she is 10 years older. Apparently and unfortunately, she was right...
So last summer, while talking with her, I remembered an add that I saw some years ago in the States. It was showing a woman in her 60’s who had applied a cream on just one half of her face. I remembered having been really surprised about the difference between the 2. The add was certifying that there was no touch up. And I thought “I’d like to remember the brand. In any case, I have to start taking care of myself and find good products for that”.
A few days later, I got back home and opened my e-mails. And the wierdest thing happened: An old friend of mine had sent me a documentation about anti-ageing creams. She did not know I was looking for it. And amoung the different pictures of the presentation, I saw the one I was thinking of a few days earlier. I thought “How wierd is that! Now, I wonder if the picture was not touched up...” I asked my friend when was the next meeting to get more info. I met her there a couple of days later. I had not seen her in about five years. She was getting close to her 60s and was really petty. We had lunch and she showed something to me that convinced me to give it a try. She had tested a cream on one hand only! I couldn’t believe my eyes! Her two hands were so different! One looked way younger than the other one.

I tried different stuff for about 3 months and am really happy. My skin is softer and smoother, my tiny lines got more discreet and it was very comfortable and pleasant to use. The only thing is: It is really expensive – probably comparable to Dior or Chanel in terms of pricing.
But there is something else: You can’t find anything in shops as the distribution is based on marketing network. It is like “Tupperware”. You can be invited to have a tea with your friends and someone is there to make a presentation and test it on you if you want. Tradition wants that you try one of the creams on half of your face and in most cases, results are visible in 5 minutes! It was not blatant on me as I do not have a lot of wrikles, but I saw more mature women try it. After just five minutes, sometimes it was really astonishing... So basically you can test it on you for free before buying. And of course people do buy. This company has shown an constant growth since its beginning 20 years ago. It started in the States and can now be developped in France and almost anywhere in the world.
My friend Amy is a full time vet and has her own clinic. Her wish is to retire soon and create an extra rent. She has been a distributor for Nuskin for about a year now and makes more than 500€ every month without being really involved in the business. From times to times, she invites friends for a tea on a Sunday afternoon and her friends bring their friends. The rest of the time, she takes care of cats and dogs in her clinic. I also met people who either dedicated more time or had been in the business for a longer period. Some of them actually make much more. Max for instance (some of you know him...) is quite a success. He started as he was 18. During the first years, nothing much happened. Then he got so frustrated that he decided to meet more people and introduce them to the brand. He conducted meetings, let people test the creams, sold more and more and affiliated more people ... He probably got pretty creative and determined. He is now 26 and makes more than 30.000€ every month. Between 500€ and 30.000€, it is always nice to get an extra income. And..
The nice thing about Nuskin is that most of the time, your income grows even if you do not actually work on it. Logic wants that in the case of Max, He will make more and more money even if he retires today. And remember? He's not even 30...
I thought that in time of crisis, the business would be harder, but figures show that in this business in particular, the benefits grow intead of shrinking. This was showed during the last 20 years in different countries like in the States during every time the stock market was not too good, or in Asia when they had to face financial crisis. The same phenomenon is visible for every time people felt the need to ensure an extra income and a safety net in the case they would loose their job. One could object that in time of crisis people do not buy anymore. That is probably true, but today a good proportion of the population invests in anti ageing products – either to stay healthy or to look younger. And there is a real demand for good and reliable products.
Pyramidal versus Network marketing
I’m gonna try to explain but let’s say it is both simple and complex, so... I’ll do my best.
Very basically, every time someone buys through you, you get commissioned. People can buy to you directly, but this would mean you need to have a stock and this is not required (You should never at any point in the process lose money, so NO STOCK). Still, if you have friends you can trust, you can buy for them and get a margin of about 30%. Another way is through the internet. When someone buys on the Internet under your profile, you get about 13%.
This is what happens when you have the status of distributor and buy enough to be eligible to get commissioned (100 points that corresponds to about 100$/month).
What happens most of the time is that you become distributor not because you want to sell, but because this allows you to get about 30 to 40% discount on everything you buy. And there is no obligation to do so.
Then with time, as people ask about it, it can become interesting to get more involved and truly sometimes, it become very profitable. It is a matter of numbers. At the beginning, it cannot be very profitable, but if you calculate (and this is hard to believe at first), when you affiliate 5 people who affiliate 5 people and this on 5 levels, incomes get pretty amazing. I let you do the math yourself...
You get commissions on 5 levels only, which makes it different from pyramidal systems where people on the basis always lose money. In this system, You never loose money. There is no stock to buy and you get the same percentage of commission on every every level. Let me try to explain this more clearly:
Let’s say someone buy 100$ through your profile on the internet, you get 13$.
If this person becomes distributor through you and buys for 100$, you only get 5$
But:
If this person sells to other people, you also get 5% on her/his sales. And this is true on 5 levels.
This may sound like nothing in terms of margins, but think of what it can become if you have 10 distributors. And 10 distributors can be easy to find over the years.
I do not want you to spend some money that you do not have. Do not jump into this business by thinking it’ll be profitable within the next months. It could be, but chances are it will not. Give it a thought first. This can be profitable for you if you want good products for yourself, enjoy them and buy enough of them to be eligible to get commissions. The other thing is, it will work if you have a good network and if you do not, it can be the occasion to create one - which is fun!
I guess this opportunity can be interesting for those of you who
- want to find good products for themselves
- are interested in beauty and well being
- want to grow a personal business on the side without having to take risks
- know people who might be interested
A couple of things that made me regard this company in a positive light:
- products are great – efficient and pleasant to use.
- People do buy anti-ageing products. It is a growing business
- Contrary to Tupperware for exemple, people buy beauty creams, shampoos and soaps every month, so clients are regular ones and income are regular as well.
- This company is profitable in time of crisis
- Nuskin gets involved in charity business that I approve of (amoung some, they plant a baobab in Malawi for every baobab body butter sold. And this cream just makes your skin so soft...)

I met very successful people. But I also met people I would not like to resemble. Some are so eager to sell and affilate that they get aggressive and lack integrity. I do not want to support this. I do not like the "typical" salesperson attitude. I wish to keep all my respect and integrity in all that I do and I encourage you to do the same. This is why I will not insist about this issue when I see you, but I insist now that you tell me if you want to talk about it.
